Towards Clinically Deployable AI-Driven Multi-Omics for Precision Oncology
Biography
Prof. CAI Jing is currently Chair Professor in Medical Physics and Intelligent Oncology and Head of Department of Health Technology and Informatics (HTI) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He was the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (FHSS) at PolyU from 07/2023 to 12/2024. He is a Fellow of American Association of Physicists in Medicine (FAAPM) since 2018, and Fellow of International Organization of Medical Physics (FIOMP) since 2025. Prof. Cai earned his PhD in Engineering Physics in 2006 and then completed his clinical residency in Medical Physics in 2009 from the University of Virginia, USA. He joined Duke University as Assistant Professor in 2009, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. He joined PolyU in 2017 to develop Hong Kong’s first (and only) MSc in Medical Physics programme which was successfully launched in 2020. Prof. Cai’s research interests include cancer diagnosis and radiotherapy, magnetic resonance imaging, artificial intelligence and big data. As PI / Co-PI, he has received > 50 external competitive research funds, including National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 and R21 grants in the USA, and Research Grants Council (RGC) / Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) / Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) grants in Hong Kong, with a total funding amount of > 175 million HK Dollars. He has published > 300 refereed papers and > 300 conference proceedings (Google Scholar h-index: 48, Citation >8000), and has mentored over 100 mentees as Chief Supervisor, including >30 PhD students, >20 Postdoc Fellows, etc. Prof. Cai has served in a number of grant review panels for multiple local and international funding agencies, including NIH and Department of Defense (DOD) of the USA, University Grants Committee (UGC) / Health Bureau (HB) / Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of Hong Kong. Prof. Cai serves on the editorial boards of a number of prestigious journals in the fields of medical physics and radiation oncology, including Deputy Editor for Medical Physics, Senior Associate Editor for International Journal of Radiation Oncology* Biology* Physics, etc. Prof. Cai has served multiple professional societies in various leadership capabilities. He is currently the Chair of Imaging for Treatment Assessment Work Group of AAPM. He was the Secretary of Task Group for Accreditation of IOMP Educational Events, IOMP. He was the past Director of the Education Program Therapy Track and Director of Partners in Solutions Therapy Track at the AAPM Annual Meetings. He was also the past Secretary of North American Chinese Medical Physicist Association (NACMPA), and the Chair of NACMPA Annual Meeting Committee. Prof. Cai is the Founding President of The Federation of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapeutics in Asia (FMIRTIA).

Biography
Dr. Tingying Peng is a Helmholtz AI Young Investigator Group Leader at Helmholtz Munich and a TUM Junior Fellow. Her research develops reliable and interpretable artificial intelligence methods for biomedical imaging, with a focus on computational pathology, multimodal biomedical AI, and quantitative microscopy. Her computational pathology program spans efficient whole-slide analysis, biomarker prediction, vision-language pathology reporting, multimodal foundation models, and virtual spatial transcriptomics. This program includes Navigator, HistoBistro, HistoGPT, contributions to TITAN, and Phoenix, a pan-cancer framework for inferring spatial molecular information from routine H&E histology. Her work has been published in Nature Communications, Nature Medicine, Cancer Cell, Nature Methods, and IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging. She received dual B.S. degrees in Electronic Engineering and Mathematics from Peking University and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Oxford. Her group works closely with pathologists, biologists, and clinicians to develop AI systems that are quantitatively rigorous, biologically meaningful, and useful in biomedical research and clinical settings.
